In My Skin as a textbook

The shift from screen to stage, All About My Mother has lost none of its colour.

Actress Peta Sergeant plays Nina Cruz, a drug-raddled theatre diva.

To ready herself for the role, Sergeant deliberately avoided Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s original and instead read a lot of literature, such as Luke Davies’s Candy, and Kate Holden’s In My Skin.

The latter chronicle of addiction and downfall “was almost a bit of a bible on set. Everyone was reading it”.

I went to see All About My Mother the other night and it’s a great production. Recommended, and not just because they said nice things about my book.
